National Road 7
I'm lying in bed sick today. Both my nostrils feel like National Road 71 in its worst years, constant traffic, endless congestion. I can almost feel myself stuck in that jam. On the way to Zakopane2 there's this billboard for a fur company called Dudek, a half-naked blonde in a fur coat. I shift into second gear just to downshift back to first. I'm lying in bed sick today.
1 National Road 7: Poland's longest national road (796 km), running from Gdańsk to the Slovak border. Notorious for chronic traffic jams, especially the stretch to Zakopane—a weekend pilgrimage route that becomes parking lot performance art.
2 Zakopane: Poland's winter capital in the Tatra Mountains. Where Warsaw escapes to on weekends, creating the very traffic jams they're trying to escape from. The author shares a surname with a fur billboard on this route.
