Nigredo
There's this alchemical term called nigredo1. Basically, it's when matter rots in a sealed vessel until it turns black. If me knowing that isn't a sign of an incoming recession, I don't know what is.
1 Nigredo: The first stage of alchemical transformation—blackening, putrefaction, decomposition. Matter must rot completely before it can be purified into gold. Jung adopted it as a metaphor for psychological breakdown preceding growth. Knowing this is either wisdom or a symptom.
